We've compiled some statistics on the current grades of the class, for those of you who enjoy such things. If you are concerned about your performance in the class ... well, you better rock the final exam.

Please double-check that the grades we have recorded for you are correct. Go to the assignment submission website, log in, click the "Grades" link at the top, and make sure that the numbers there are as you expect. If you find a discrepancy, notify the TAs ASAP.

Disclaimer

The accuracy of these numbers is not guaranteed. The course staff does not intend for these numbers to suggest anything in particular about final letter grades. We emphasize again that we do not grade on a curve, that there is no "target distribution" of letter grades, and especially that the grade distribution is not guaranteed (nor expected) to look similar to those of previous offerings of 6.006. We provide these statistics for your information, but we don't have any opinion on how you should interpret this information. Finally, remember that your TA has significant influence on your final grade, based on your performance and participation in class.

Weighted grades

From the course information handout:

The final grade will be primarily based on 6 problem sets, two quizzes, and a final. The problem sets will together be worth 40 points, each quiz will be 15 points, and the final exam 25 points. Recitation participation will be worth 5 points.

As of now (December 10, 2008), we have had six problem sets, and both quizzes. You can compute your weighted grade so far using the following formula:

40\cdot\frac{\sum_{i=1}^6 PS_i}{570} + 15\cdot\frac{Q_1}{120} + 15\cdot\frac{Q_2}{120}

where:

  • PSi is your raw score on Problem Set i (summing parts A and B), remembering that PS1 was worth 70 points, and all the others are worth 100 points each
  • Qi is your raw score on Quiz i

The maximum possible score at this point in the class is exactly 70.

Distribution

The weighted grades of the class are currently distributed like this:

Quartile 1st 2nd 3rd 4th
Score 54.7 58.9 61.2 63.5
Mean 59.0

This distribution includes only the 97 students who were registered as of Drop Date.
